Madmaheshwar is one of the five Kedars in India, steeped in legend. It is said that Lord Shiva's navel fell here after a confrontation with Bhima. Disguised as a buffalo to evade the Pandavas, Lord Shiva was recognized by Bhima, who managed to catch the buffalo. Their struggle caused the buffalo to be torn into six pieces, which fell at various locations: the five parts became the Kedars—Kedarnath, Madmaheshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath, and Kalpeshwar—while the sixth landed in Nepal, where the Pashupatinath temple now stands.
In addition to being a sacred pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Shiva, Madmaheshwar is also a treasure trove of diverse flora and fauna, making it a dream destination for trekkers. The journey begins in Ukhimath, located about 201 km from Haridwar.
